I am 18 years old and this will be my first time getting a tax refund.I worked with my mom for 3 months in 2008 and made almost $400 a week but minus taxes it came to about $295 a week. About how much do you think I’ll get back?

    Go to turbotax.com.

There is a calculator that will estimate how much you will get. Very easy to use.

    3 months = 12 weeks
    12 X $400 = $4800 Your Gross Income
    $400 – $295 = $195 Taxes withheld
    $195 X 12 = $2340 Taxes withheld (sound like too much withheld)

If you Truly paid that much in taxes, then you should file and get all your money back.

you only get a refund if you paid too much tax during the year. you don’t
get a refund just for filing taxes. its called a refund because you gave them too much in the first place. if you have no deductions to knock down
your gross income and have not paid enough tax out of your checks you won’t get any money back. look on line or go to the irs website and
get a schedule of income and see what you made and then look and see if you paid enough tax.

You made 4800 last year…DO you go to school…can/does your mother claim you as a dependent?

My brother last year made 5600, he got back all FEDERAL tax witheld…TO SEE how much you get, check on your W2 box #2 (its listed under “federal taxes withheld”) for total taxes witheld, that is the refund amount you get back. (There might be other taxes like state taxes, medi. Social security tax….you do not get that back)

You’re including ss/medicare withheld and this is not refundable. Since it seems you made around 4800 you will be getting all federal tax withheld back which is in box 2 on your W2. Since you are mostly likely still her dependent you will file a 1040EZ and check the box that you can be claimed as a dependent.

I’m not sure how to answer your question but I would like to recommend you a company which helped me a lot. I got consultation at no cost for my tax problems.
