Does an extension impact how quickly you receive a tax refund?

I filed a 6 month extension for my 2007 taxes, and then 2 weeks later on April 30, I filed my 2007 tax return. It’s been 6 weeks, and no status from IRS website, so I called up and they said that it hasn’t even been proceesed yet because I filed an extension. I’ve never heard of an extension impacting a refund…is this correct? any advice on how to get my refund processed quicker?

It depends on how busy they are. I routinely get an extension every year and file near the October deadline. Any minuscule refunds I have gotten were paid in three weeks or so. Your situation probably has more to do with you being in the logjam of last-minute filers than anything to do with filing for an extension.

They will process the refund in the order it was received. I filed my taxes on April 14 and they didn’t process the tax return until April 30th.

I’m sure since you filed your tax return over 2 weeks later than me, it will take longer for you to get your refund. If you are deserved interest, you will receive it with your refund check.

I filed an extension in 2008 i never filed however i lost my primary home and a rental property that same year. I was unemployed did not work the entire year. My 2011 refund is being held up due to the extension. Will I get it? It on hold for 2 weeks….
