I received a letter saying that the IRS was holding my refund for one or more of four reasons. Looks like they are verifying my income and withholding amounts. My questions is where is the code on this letter or is there a code on these letters? I see a a number of 008722 in small print on the right side of the letter.

my return was processed thru a cpa that i have been useing for ten years. i have been married up until last year, this is the first year i am filing head of house with eic. my error code came back 1341. supposed tax liabaility on another account, well i dont have naother account nor does my ex, he did not claim our daughter so i dont know what the hold up is. no one at the irs seems to know what is going on either, they said a two month delay in processing refund. i also had the irs look to make sure there was no money owed anywhere and no rulings against my refund, and she said there is nothing. so she doesnt know why it produced that code or why they are keeping my reufnd, i hate the government!

As an EA for many years. What worries me more than not getting
a depreciation schedule is the mis use of 179 elections. By EA's as well as CPA's to maximize a refund instead of providing critical common sense for small and start up businesses. I have seen so many small business's owners put under the gun when their business fails and recovery is required of the 179 election deductions. This can and usually is devestating to the individual or family who already are under stress because their dream failed. Now the owe the IRS sometimes huge amounts of money they do not have.

I was notified that there was an error on my form but it *increased* my refund by $800. Reference number 9022. I suspect it has something to do with making work pay since it is a nice even number. Problem is my kids need the 1040 forms for financial aid and I can't get through to make sure. The refund has already been processed and in my bank account.

I am having a similar problem. My brother was recently incarecerated and his refund check has come. I took it to the jail and he signed it. I then took it to my bank (BofA) to deposit it, and they said no way.Now I have his check with my signature and his on it, and cant cash it. I did call IRS and they say the check is good for 1 year, so he will just have to wait until hes out

I have the same problem, the irs recieved my return jan 16th, and i was suposed to recieve it by feb 2nd. I have been getting the run around, and a different excuse everytime I call. Tax payer advocate has also gave me the run around saying they cant do anything due to a system glitch. There has got to be someone that can help me. My status code changes from 1301 to 8001. Had it been me owing them, they would be charging interest but we just get ignored.

So mine is also delayed, with the code 1201 which stands for "All other conditions not covered
by a status code". Just what does that even mean??? Oh please, please, please...I don't want to sit on hold for 20 minutes to talk to the IRS! Lame.
