i got a 1099 from a company that paid me 718$ USD and took no taxes out and i have no deductions or dependents or any other income to claim. I did an efile online to see what it would say i owed and it said 0 and i got back 0 so do i even have to file this if that is the only income i am getting? seems like a waste of time and money for me to file if i am not owing them anything or they owe me anything

I didn’t file taxes in 2004 or 2005. I just thought I didnt make that much so whatever. Didnt realize that I get $$ for my daughter, etc. I am wondering if for 2004 2005 they have to be mailed in or if there is someway to efile those. Also wondering (I know they say it can take up to 90 to process returns) how soon it could be processed when paper returns are mailed in. I know w/ state that was efiled i had the check in less than a week and they said it could take 21 days. Any info would help, i need to get car fixed!! thanks!

Duplicate Tax return?

I sent my paper return this morning. I need to increase my adjusted gross income which I can do by claiming less in deductions for higher education expenses. My question is if I efile my return by tomorrow morning (before my paper return is processed) and the IRS receives the paper return, how does the IRS treat duplicate returns? What are the repurcussions?
If I used Taxcut will they email me when my money is being sent to me?

Reviews:
I would not recommend to anyone to use FileYourTaxes.com to prepare their tax return. There are many reasons not to use their service:
- Expensive price. The base price plus additional add-on costs just do not justify the quality of the product. Also beware of the additional costs if you need to use Schedule A, Schedule C, Schedule D, …
- Very poor software. Right off the bat I ran into a problem (see screenshot below) which forces me to abort and login again.

- Very confusing user interface. For example, once you click on the button to add a schedule or tax form, it’s been saved in your account. If you decide later on that you want to abort the tax form, you will need to follow this awkward message to remove it from your return.

Conclusion:
If if I were somehow to qualify for FREE E-File from FileYourTaxes.com, I would stay away from them.

Reviews:
TaxSlayer has been around the industry for a while now. They have improved their software look and feel over the years. My initial impression is that it looks very similar to TurboTax which I am familiar with. The navigation is easy to follow and flexible enough to allow you jump from section to section. The Help section is intuitive and helpful if you get stuck. At $9.95/$14.95, TaxSlayer is a cheaper alternative to some of the other premium products on the market.
